Nearly 500 evacuated as firefighters battle huge wildfire in Norway

Fire services on Friday (June 4) continued to battle a fire on the island of Sotra on Norway’s west coast. The fire started on Thursday (June 3) afternoon and around 500 people had to be evacuated. One house burned down while another was damaged. According to broadcaster TV2, around 50 fire crews, the civil defence and three helicopters have been taking part in the operation. Those evacuated were allowed to return to their homes on Friday after the fire service deemed there was no longer any threat to buildings. TV2 said the cause of the fire was still unknown and that it would take days to completely extinguish the fire.
