At the 2021 European Youth Championships in Varazdin (CRO), Annett Kaufmann met Sophie Earley in the semifinals (SF) of the cadet girl’s singles (CGS) event. Earley already made history by coming this far as she was the first Irish player to ever reach a semifinal at the European Youth Championships.
