In January 1989, the band recorded it at the request of the cultural attaché at the French embassy in Moscow, Joël Bastenaire. It was soon mixed in Paris at the Du Val d’Orge studio and released on CD in France. “Unfortunately, the English branch management did not give permission for the worldwide release, and there was no advertising for the album at all. That’s why, when KINO first arrived in France in April 1989 to take part in the festival Printemps de Bourges, I tried my best to draw attention to the record, using all my personal contacts, because it had been released a month before the concerts. But the USSR was treated quite hostilely at that time, and many experts believed Perestroika to be a pure bluff and thought that communism was about to tighten the screws again. Some journalists even suspected me of being an agent of influence and the band members of being puppets. It was very annoying for Vitya,“ he later remembered.
