“Lambada“ is a song by the Franco-Brazilian music group Kaoma. It was released as a single in 1989 and subsequently entered the group’s 1st album.
Lambada is a musical style and dance that originated in northern Brazil, in the state of Para. Popularized in the late 1980s and early 1990s all over the world.
The dance style of the Lambada is based on the movements of the Carimbo dance of the Amazonian Indians. Also among the ancestors of the lambada are dances such as mashishi and forro. The birthplace of lambada is called the Brazilian city of Porto Seguro. The name “lambada“ comes from the Portuguese language. On Brazilian radio stations, they called just popular dance melodies, “hits“. Over time, the name “lambada“ supplanted the name “karimbo“, and the dance underwent some changes.
