The Shenzhou-13 spaceship will take off on October 16 and send three Chinese astronauts to the country’s space station’s Tianhe core module. And this time, there will be a woman on board. Astronaut Wang Yaping will become the first woman to visit the China space station Tiangong, traveling with male astronauts Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu.
The trio are expected to stay for at least 180 days, twice as long as the previous manned mission’s crew. This news has sparked heated discussions online with social media users asking what goods they will need, as they will spend one of the most important Chinese festivals of the year, Spring Festival, in space. Will there be another live space lecture? What materials have been designed for Wang? And how will the trio celebrate Chinese New Year? More stories will follow from space over the next six months.
