Dr Marcus on Prigozhin, Wagner, and Maskirovka

In an interview with CGTN America, Dr Marcus Papadopoulos commented on what is officially an attempted coup or rebellion by the leader of Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin. Dr Marcus began by saying that Wagner and Academi (previously known as Blackwater) are no different to one another, in that they are both controlled by their respective governments. He then turned his attention to the “attempted coup” or “rebellion” by Prigozhin and his Wagner soldiers. Dr Marcus said that there are more questions than answers. So, for instance, he asked why it was that Prigozhin did not call on Russian soldiers to defect and why he did not call on Russian citizens to take to the streets. Dr Marcus also asked how it was possible for elements of Wagner to travel all the way from the Donbass to Rostov-on-Don unimpeded, considering that along the way there is an enormous Russian military presence. In light of those oddities, Dr Marcus contended that what happened involving Wagner could have been a case of Maskirovka - Russian military deception.
