Third video in Negative painting technique series in Watercolors and this time Iām painting some green leaves, flowers and foliage. Iāll walk you through the whole process, from working with reference photo, sketching and painting. What makes this video from the others is that this time Iām using masking fluid for some parts and will share tips and trick for working with this medium.

Materials:
Paper:
100% cotton paper, cold pressed, fine grain, 300 gsm thick (recommend using a cotton paper since this technique requires multiple layers of paint and cotton paper)
Brushes:
- Flat brush: Winsor & Newton, Cotman, One stroke 25 mm/1 (large brush for covering the page with clean water)
- Round brush: LaVanche 3325 series, size 16,
- Round brush: Da Vinci (Petit gris mix) size 6 and 4
- Rigger brush: Da Vinci (Cosmotop spin) size 1
- A small craft brush (Iām using a local brand size 5) for masking fluid. OBS! Donāt use a fancy brush for masking fluid, itās easy to damage it.
Maskin fluid from Winsor & Newton
Terpentine from Winsor & Newton for cleaning the brush after using masking fluid
Paint:
- Gold paint from Rosa (800 Gold)
- Lemon yellow from Schmincke
- May green from Schmicke
- Spring green from Daniel Smith
- Prussian green from Daniel smith
- Prussian blue from Daniel smith
- Indigo from Rosa
OBS! You donāt need to use these specific brands. Also different brands name their colors differently.
