A Child with Gross Hematuria.

A miracidium, a free-swimming Schistosoma haematobium larva (approximately 200 μm in length) usually found in environmental water, is shown in a urine sample obtained from an 8-year-old boy with gross hematuria. Urine microscopy had revealed oval eggs with a terminal spine and transparent shell that were characteristic of S. haematobium. See the NEJM article, “A Child with Gross Hematuria“:
