Putin: Russia will respond in kind if NATO deploys troops, infrastructure in Finland, Sweden

President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia would respond in kind if NATO deployed troops and infrastructure in Finland and Sweden after they join the military alliance. Putin’s remarks came one day after Turkey lifted objections to Finland and Sweden’s joining NATO, which means the two Nordic countries can proceed with their application. He added Moscow’s relations with Helsinki and Stockholm would sour over their NATO membership inevitably. When it comes to an attack at a crowded mall, which killed 18 in Kremechuk on Monday, Putin insisted the Russian military “doesn’t strike any civilian targets in Ukraine” as they “don’t need to”. He added the military operation in Ukraine was “going according to plan”.
