“Assyria and the “Others“ in Middle Assyrian Period: a View from East“ M.G. Masetti-Rouault and I. Calini, French Mission at Qasr Shemamok (KRG, Iraq) Tuesday 5th April 2022 UK and Ireland (UTC 1) Rome, Paris, Berlin (Central European Time = UTC 2) In the last decades, studies over the extension, in space and time, of the Middle-Assyrian empire have been enriched by archaeological discoveries in Eastern Syria and Northern Mesopotamia. Texts and other materials found in western “Khanigalbat“ have revealed new aspects of its structure and political programs, showing its connections with the Mittanian / Hurrian federation system. The recent opening of the Kurdish region of Iraq to archaeological research has offered a possibility to observe and analyze the expansion of the empire from its core on the Tigris also to the east and north-east, toward the Zagros mountains.
