Federico Giusfredi (University of Verona) and Valerio Pisaniello (The Chieti-Pescara University “Gabriele d’Annunzio”) “Die acht Sprachen der Boghazköi-Inschriften a little more than a century after“ Abstract: The archives of the Hittite kingdom contain documents that were written in a number of different languages. While some degree of multilingualism is not uncommon in the collections of tablets from the Ancient Near East, the presence of records in at least ten different idioms make Boğazöy stand out among the other significant sites of the ancient Western Asia. In this presentation, we will give an overview of the situation and of the state of the art of the research, both from a sociolinguistic and from a cultural-historical perspective.
