Alexander Borisovich Goldenweiser (also spelled Goldenveyzer; 10 March [O.S. 26 February] 1875 – 26 November 1961) was a Russian and Soviet pianist, teacher and composer born in Chișinău, Moldova (Kishinev, Bessarabia, Russia)

Goldenweiser was ideologically close to Leo Tolstoy . Their friendship began in 1896 thanks to their passion for chess. Like a Tolstoyan , he did not eat meat. He was present at the death of the writer in Astapov and signed his will.
He performed as a soloist and ensemble player. In 1907 he performed as a member of the Moscow Trio , replacing pianist D. S. Shor . He gave concerts until 1956, including in ensembles with E. Izai , D. F. Oistrakh , L. B. Kogan , S. N. Knushevitsky , the Quartet. Ludwig van Beethoven.
Since 1901, he acted as a music critic in print, collaborated in the newspaper “ Courier “, the magazine “Musical World“ and other publications (under the pseudonyms: A., A, Borisov, G. G-r), was a member of the editorial board of the magazine “Musical Worker“ “, conducted educational work.
From 1906 to 1961 he was a professor of piano at the Moscow Conservatory, and from 1936 to 1959 he was head of the piano department. In 1918-1919 - assistant director, 1919-1922 and 1932-1934 - deputy director (vice-rector), in 1922-1924 and 1939-1942 - director (rector) of the conservatory. In 1931 he organized the “Special Children’s Group” at the Moscow Conservatory. From 1936 to 1941 - artistic director of the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory. From 1932 to 1934 - Deputy Chairman of the Moscow branch of the Union of Soviet Composers of the USSR .
He died on November 26, 1961 (according to other sources - November 27) in the village of Nikolina Gora (now Odintsovo district, Moscow region ).
