Kurt Cobain and Dale Crover recorded this song in 1985 as Fecal Matter on a demo called “Illiteracy Will Prevail“. Kurt sended this demo to many people after Fecal Matter disbanded the next year, one of the person’s that were interested in this demo was Krist Novoselic, who asked Kurt to start a band, Krist was specifically fond of Spank Thru. Krist ended up being the bassist of Nirvana and a good friend of Kurt. Spank Thru is one of the two songs that were performed by both Nirvana and Fecal Matter, the other being Downer. This is probably the most famous version of Spank Thru, it appeared on the various artists Sub Pop compilation “Sub Pop 200“.
