BWV 244: Matthäus-Passion - Erbarme dich, mein Gott | Zimmermann Band

The Matthäus-Passion is more about meditation and the emotional torment of the characters rather than the actual plot, although there’s a lot of that too. At its heart is ’Erbarme dich, mein Gott’ which takes place just after the cock crows and Peter betrays of Jesus for the third time. Here, the violin solo is performed by Maxim Del Mar and the countertenor is Tristram Cooke, accompanied by strings and theorbo. No conductor, organ or harpsichord, just supported by the heart-beat of plucked instruments.
