Ministers announce govt to appeal Federal Court ruling on use of Emergencies Act – January 23, 2024
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, Pubic Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Justice Minister Arif Virani announce that the government will appeal a Federal Court ruling that found the February 2022 invocation of the Emergencies Act to be unreasonable and led to an infringement of Charter rights. The case was brought forward by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Canadian Constitution Foundation, as well as other individuals.
