Every generation has had its media stylized to look nostalgic for its decade at some point. Every decade returns to its previous years through tiny details in music, film and all other media. These nostalgic details can last for some time to the point where they become the new norm (they are not a thing of the past anymore) or they become saturated and dropped (until they are picked up again in another future decade).
Retraux is when the appearance of media is changed on purpose to look retro, to look decades older. It is a combination of “retro“ which refers to “past times“ and “faux“ which refers to false. While not an official word in the dictionary, retraux is something that is very visible in our current media and also abstractly hidden at times, yet still effective.
