Shortparis – Ghetto in the Lake, “Call of the Lake“ part one (English Subs)
The inspiration for the poem was a lake in a small city Stanislav. The Germans destroyed the ghetto there during the war, then flooded the area and created an artificial lake. The poet visited the lake with a friend long afterward and saw people boating, swimming and fishing. ’’When I discovered that a ghetto once existed below the waters, I was shocked,’’ he said. ’’I took my fishing rod, broke it in half, and ran away.’’ - Herbert Mitgang, writing for the New York Times about the poet Andrei Voznesensky
