This is a hypothetical version of what Swan Song could’ve been if Jimmy Page realized his full vision back in 1974. It is purely speculative, and it has my own creative twist on the material. I created this from the 5 minute track that was professionally recorded, along with the material present on the hour-long tape of demoed playing by Jimmy. In places where I could combine both sources, I did, creating a chaotic yet powerful-sounding ensemble; sort of a messy version of Jimmy’s “army of guitars“ concept.
I know there is talk of a 19 minute demo of the full thing, but looking through the tape of what we have, it’d be pointless to create anything longer than this, because beyond what you hear here, all the different ideas and motifs just repeat, as Jimmy works through his ideas numerous times. For instance, the noodling about at 4:10 goes on for another 10-odd minutes in a really informal style, and it’s hardly coherent enough to really tell what Jimmy wanted to do with it, or if he even knew at the time.
