Scotland In rural areas of Scotland, there is a pre-marital custom called Blackening. The Bride or the groom or both are captured by friends and family, covered in food and sticky substances, and paraded around in an open cart whilst the captures bang pots and pans to call people’s attention. The onlookers then donate money to help pay for the wedding. In Mauritania, a fat woman is a sign of a wealthy family and beauty, so instead of slimming down to fit in their wedding dress, Mauritanian women fatten up to get a husband. The tradition is called Leblouh and it consists of overfeeding women over a period of months, sometimes starting at a very young age, girls are force-fed up to 16,000 calories a day to make them more desirable to a richer groom, that could then save the family from poverty. 5. Mongolia. Getting a date for a wedding is important in every culture, but in Mongolia, it is not important because of the venue or the caterers, in Mongolia, it is considered important to aid the success of the marriage.
