Encanto | Luisa Animation Test | Michael Woodside | @3DAnimationInternships

Luisa was the first character I got to supervise on Encanto. This is an early expression calisthenic I animated, meant to put her through a range of emotions to see how the rig (by Jon Soto), model (by Dylan Ekren) and groom (by Dan Lipson) are holding up in motion. Also, for my part, this is a chance for me to explore her personality and design. It’s basically when I feel like I get to meet her. This is usually the first time we see the characters move and we get notes from the directors as well as the amazing Bill Schwab and Lorelay Bove. From there, we keep refining until she is ready for the crew. The 2nd image is a few drawovers I did early on to get a sense of how the main shapes might move in extreme expressions. Jon will take that information and work it into the rig so the animators can put her through a range of expressions. All told, we were putting her together for about 8 months… That may seem like a long time but that doesn’t take off the PRESSURE. . Thank you for watching and Subscribing!
