On this day in 1941, the United States entered World War II as Congress declared war against Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Here is a British Movietone report showing the suffering of the civil population after the attack. The world knows that the Japanese attacked the American Naval Base without warning, these pictures show something of how the civil population suffered. Japanese planes fly over and fires rage in Waikiki. Refugees run hither and thither. AA guns fire and the injured are cared for. The children play in a communal nursery. Afterwards, shots of wreckage and a damaged car.
