Visit Visit our website Dating after 1964, this short film shows an early Apollo Program Lunar Module mock-up being tested to see how spacesuited astronauts could maneuver inside. The location is likely the Grumman plant at Bethpage, New York. The mock-up shows the astronauts in a standing position at (3:00), which was a development over the original design (which had them sitting down). The mock-up also features triangular windows, as opposed to the rounded design first proposed. At (3:46) a scope is used to take a position reading. At (4:06) a seatbelt is shown in use. Starting at about (5:00), the astronaut subjects don spacesuits to perform an EVA on the lunar surface and don life support packs (8:27). At (13:30) they open a large hatch. They return at at (18:43) stow their gear. The spacesuits seen in the film appears to be an SPD-143 type, known at NASA as the AX1L.
