The film “Industry on Parade“ was produced by the National Association of Manufacturers to promote American industry in the 1950-1960 era. This film was shot in various locations: Gulf of Mexico at Corpus Christi Bay, Michigan, Eddystone, Pennsylvania, Canton, Ohio, Houston, Texas, Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Chicago. The film shows an oil rig in the sea at 0:58. The narrator says “for every barrel of oil brought to the surface, a pound of steel has had to be invested in the form of equipment” at 1:00. A petroleum drill is shown from the Gulf of Mexico at Corpus Christi Bay at 1:19. The Emsco building is shown, and the narrator says they are the one foremost manufacturers of equipment at 1:29. The film shows the process of converting the raw steel into machinery used for oil and petroleum conversion at 1:44. They use old locomotive parts for oil-well pumping units at 2:09. The narrator explains that when a nation wants more petroleum, it must pay with steel, instead of hard cash at 3:02. Film cuts to a different narrator who starts explaining more of the statistics behind what it takes to run an industry and manufacturing business at 4:00. A section on “Duping Ducks,” begins at 4:23. The narrator starts talking about a product called Deeks at 4:30. The word Deek is code for Decoy and Duck Hunters use them to lure in ducks at 4:37. Film shows the decoy ducks being made to look like real live ducks 5:12. Narrator explains that for both male and females, you need different coloring since they have different patterns 5:31. The film shows a hunter using a Deek 6:45. A new section “General’s Own General!” begins at 7:11. The film shows President Tom Kearns of General Steel Products Corporation inspecting a steel plant at 7:22. Film shows General Steel playing host to General Hamilton, a vice president of the firm on military leave at 7:47. Film shows the making of a piece of a steel cabinet at 8:31. The film section “Making Old Friends in a Hurry!” begins at 9:59. Narrator describes that feeling lonely in a new city will never happen if the city has a branch of the new organization called the “new neighbors league” and a woman is shown getting out of a car with the words “City Hostess” on it at 10:20. The film shows a pamphlet by the New Neighbors League at 11:02. The film then shows how the New Neighbors League has helped newcomers feel at home in their new city at 12:15. The narrator says that the League’s benefits last for one year at 12:20. The first section of the film ends at 13:27. The second section of the film begins at 13:47, “Industry on Parade: A Pictorial Review of Events In Business and Industry.” The first section of part two “Exploration Underground!” begins at 14:08. The film shows oil prospecting with 20th century technology at 14:16. The film then shows someone from a lab assembling delicate instruments at 14:40. A Galvanometer is shown at 14:55, being used at the Schlumberger Well Survey Co., now Schlumberger Limited,. A tool that will be lowered into a borehole is shown at 15:26. The narrator describes what the specialists use to develop additional production 16:00. A mobile field laboratory car and team is shown at 16:40-18:37. The film section “Precision by the Ton!” begins at 19:21. The film shows the J.T. Baker Chemical Company plant at 19:28. The film shows the workers performing tests on the raw material they are given and the beginning of the transformation process into Potassium Sulfate at 20:15. The film shows the testing of the Potassium Sulfate at 21:45. The film section “Keeping Saws in Shape!” begins at 22:22. The film shows the Foley-Belsaw company, a business that makes saws and sharpens them at 22:40. The film shows a batch of saws being given to Sam Harris Sharpening Services at 24:07. The film’s final section, “Super Secretary!” begins at 25:47. The desk of Ms. Ula Ray of Chicago, with dozens of telephones on it, is shown at 26:00. Film ends at 27:05.
