’Mahakaalabhairava Ashtakam’, also known as ’Theekshna Damshtrāshtakam’, is a powerful hymn in which each verse begins with
Beeja Mantras such as ’yam’, ’sam’, ’pam’, ’ram’ etc.
’Beeja’ (meaning ’seed’) Mantras are the core Mantras
endowed with great powers, therefore should not be recited without initiation from a Guru.
This Ashtakam is a salutation to the Supreme deity, who is ’Kshetra Paala’, the protector of Kshetra (region/domain/body).
