In this gardening video, I show you how to burn a tree stump and in particular how to burn large tree stumps with ease, all part of stump burning which was filmed in 4k. For me burning out a tree stump is by far the best way to remove a tree stump without the need for chemicals or heavy machinery and now we are in the winter it’s time to burn out those unwanted tree stumps large and small. This was the third tree stump I burned out from my garden and four times the size of the other two and I just followed the same principles of burning out a tree stump as I did on the earlier stump burning. Before you start burning stumps here are a few tips: 1. Make sure you are aware of your local regulations regarding starting fires on your property, the last thing you want is the police knocking at your door when burning your tree stumps! 2. No need to use Kerosene over a 6 week period prior to burning the stump - I have only fed the drilled holes for 24 -48 hours before the fire was initially started to burn out the stump. 3. Dig down below the ground level of the tree stump and if possible get under some of the tree or roots to allow the burn at more angles and you will burn out the tree roots as well as the stump. 4. After each burn drill new holes through the remaining stump to increase heat exposure and airflow. 5. If you can fit an incinerator over the stump - restrict airflow to allow a slow burn - a slow burn tree stump removal is less work and the safer option. 6. I got through a lot of wood to burn the stump out but I killed two birds with one stone in that I dismantled an old wooden terrace which provided enough fuel for a 12-hour vigorous fire to burn out the stump. 7. I looked at the weather forecast and had a clear 4 days before we were hit with a lot of rain - I wanted the rain after that time to make sure all the surrounding earth was soaked to help prevent an underground fire within the root system after burning the stump out. 8. Stay safe and make sure the fire is always in control and have measures available to extinguish any problems when burning out a tree stump. I kept a water hose near the fire at all times so in an emergency all I had to do was turn the tap on - better be prepared for the worst then you are not caught out! 9. During the stump burning process, I dowsed the surrounding area in water to help avoid an underground fire.
