Roundtable: Global Judaica: Objects, Books, and Manuscripts - Hidden Stories Symposium

This video includes a roundtable discussion with Eva Frojmovic (University of Leeds), Sara Irwin (Royal Ontario Museum), Dorion Liebgott (Beth Tzedec Congregation Museum, Toronto), and Noam Sienna (University of St. Thomas), with moderator Adam Harris Levine (Art Gallery of Ontario). The session uses focus objects from the Hidden Stories exhibition — a Ketubah (Royal Ontario Museum), Toledo Bible (Fisher Library), Genesis leaf, China (Royal Ontario Museum) — to explore the fluid categorization of Judaica and the rich history of Jewish books and objects across the Silk Roads, including those from Kaifeng, China. Roundtable panelists discuss the challenges of displaying and encountering global Judaica in the museum and discuss creative ways of giving voice to objects as they traverse numerous stylistic, geographic, and cultural boundaries. The roundtable is part of the virtual symposium, Hidden Stories: Global History, Local Networks (24-25 February 2022), which celebrates the exhibition Hidden Stories:
