Phantasm | John Dowland: Lachrimae for Viol Consort · MarchVivo
Melancholy was such a widespread ailment in the Renaissance that it prompted extensive medical treatises that delved into its causes. In music, the best example of the importance of this emotional imbalance was the instrumental collection Lachrimæ, or Seaven Teares, composed by the English lutenist John Dowland in 1604.
