MAGDA OLIVERO at 81 - Ave Maria, Gounod

This is a very rare and intimate moment; Magda Olivero is singing alone with no public during a rehearsal for a concert of religious arias to be given at the “Chiesa dei Cappuccini” in Milan in 1991. What we are witnessing is a genuine prayer address to the Holy Virgin and sung by a profound believer. To my knowledge, Gounod’s Ave Maria ever been sung with such interiority and fervour. Note: The Ave Maria in sung in the original key of G major and the high B5 on “hora” at the end is mesmerizing in power and beauty, Magda Olivero was then 81 years old. È un momento molto raro e intimo: Magda Olivero canta da sola, senza pubblico, durante le prove di un concerto di arie religiose da tenersi alla Chiesa dei Cappuccini di Milano nel 1991. Ciò a cui assistiamo è una vera e propria preghiera rivolta alla Vergine Santa e cantata da una profonda credente.
