During a congressional hearing, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, John Sopko, revealed that the Biden administration did not cooperate with his office’s investigation into the Afghanistan withdrawal. Sopko also warned multiple administrations about the Afghan military’s inability to fight independently and the collapse of the Afghan government after the withdrawal of contractors. Further, Sopko mentioned concerns regarding Afghan funds held in a Swiss account and the number of evacuees that exceeded the State Department’s estimates, including worries about Taliban infiltration.
