How is Tanzania doing under its first female president? | DW News
It’s been more than two years since Samia Hassan took over the presidency in Tanzania, inheriting power directly from her predecessor, the late John Magufuli. A career politician, she’s the first female president of her nation and its fair to say her time in office has seen her put Tanzania on a path to transition.
Opposition figures ostracized and imprisoned under Magufuli have been welcomed back into the fold. And she’s relaxed restrictions on the press, licensing opposition publications banned by her predecessor.
