This is the third and final instalment of my “Hog and Harp” series – a trio of old time cowboy songs I wrote and recorded with a vintage mahogany parlour guitar and an assortment of old harmonicas. “Forever Gone” is about an outlaw whose villainous past finally catches up to him in a spooky way. See my channel for the other two songs in the series: “Veil of Tears”, and “Raised by Wolves”.
Forever Gone
My life’s a tragic tale
Of murder and betrayal
And penance paid for living oh so wrong
Now I ride the devil’s trail
And hear the nightingale
Calling out his mournful midnight song
I’m forever gone
Forever gone, forever gone
My soul’s forever gone
Forever forced to ride
With demons at my side
My soul’s forever gone
I ride this evil steed
As punishment for greed
Forced along this trail that I abhor
The devil signed my deed
I’m never to be freed
Hungry, bleary-eyed and saddle sore
For evermore
For evermore, for evermore
I will ride for evermore
Forever on this trail
With Satan at my trail
I will ride for ever more
