What’s One Dog Year In Human Years?

You’ve probably heard that one dog year is equivalent to seven human years. In fact, there’s no such thing as a consistent “dog year.“ Different dogs age at different rates, depending on their breed and size. Dogs also age much more quickly than humans in their first year of life; a dog celebrating his 1st birthday might as well be a teen celebrating his 15th! Larger dog breeds start to age faster than smaller ones at around 6 or 7 (human) years. A 12-year-old small dog has about 64 human years under his belt, whereas a 12-year-old big dog is closer to a 77-year-old human.
