Chopin: Variations on “Là ci darem la mano“, Op.2 - Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu
Absolute Splendid and jaw-dropping performance of the variations op.2, which is based on a Mozart opera. His rubatos are very natural and flow well with the music overall. His light touches throughout the piece really make his interpretation stand out from the rest.
0:01 – Introduction: Largo
04:36 – Thema: Allegretto
06:08 – Var.1: Brillante
*The voicing in this variation is amazing, especially with so many filler and unimportant non-melody chromatic passing notes
07:10 – Var.2: Veloce, ma accuratamente
*Extreme light touches, but very well-distinguished melody line
08:11 – Var.3: Sempre sostenuto
09:46 – Var.4: Con bravura
* The contrast between 9:46 and 9:56 is unmatched. The incredible pianissimo dynamic on the repeat of the theme is nearly impossible to do. The amount of control in terms of touch Bruce has is unearthly. (with wide jumps and incredibly awkward hand positions, he is not only extremely accurate, but also so well-controlled)
10:55 – Var.5: Adagio
*11:29
