Tokyo in 1999

24 year ago in 1999 we went to Tokyo and Japan for the very first time. It was part of our honeymoon trip that also included stops in Hong Kong and Singapore. In 2023 we went to Japan on our 17th trip ... We used a Sony DV camera back then and recently I transferred the footage to my Apple computer. I hadn’t seen this video in a long time and I was rather shocked at how young we were. And even more shocked at how poor we handled the video camera and how naive our comments sound today. The quality of the footage itself is hardly at today’s level either but that is to be expected. I edited the video clips (about 60 minutes of footage) down to around 9 minutes. I have to say that I’m also a little bit surprised that Tokyo from a visual point of view looks quite similar today. We never went to Shibuya on this very first vacation to Japan and that area may be the one that has changed the most.
