How to Build a Railway Style From Different Strokes in Illustrator

Railway tracks can of course be built using dashed lines. Trouble is: the dashes are distorted in curves. So how do you approach the problem when you need repeating lines (or other shapes) along a path that don’t get distorted? And of course: how do you get the rails.
