Mathematics Terms in American and Japanese Sign Languages

January 3 - 9, 2011 faculty and students in grades 11-12 at Rochester School for the Deaf (RSD), in Rochester, NY, hosted faculty and students from Tokyo Metropolitan Chuo School for the Deaf in Tokyo, Japan. RSD and Tokyo Metro are participating in the initial phase of project, Secondary Educational Enrichment for Deaf Students -- International: Sowing the Seeds of Cross-Cultural Understanding (SEEDS-International). February 21-25, RSD students will travel to Japan for the second phase of this project. In this video, RSD Middle School students in Mrs. Heather Mooney’s Math Class and Tokyo Metro High School students are working together to demonstrate various terms used in mathematics. Each term is fingerspelled and then signed in American and Japanese Sign Languages.
