Picture of the Day | Collision of 2 Galaxies [4k UHD]

This Hubble Space Telescope image showcases Arp 122, a unique galaxy consisting of two separate galaxies - NGC 6040, an inclined, distorted spiral galaxy, and LEDA 59642, a spherical, face-on spiral galaxy - engaged in a collision. This captivating cosmic interaction occurs at a secure distance of approximately 570 million light-years from Earth. Additionally, the elliptical galaxy NGC 6041 is also visible in the background, situated within the galaxy cluster that houses Arp 122, although it is not actively involved in this significant merging event.
