Delayed phase transition to quark-gluon plasma in binary neutron star merger
The simulation shows The density of two neutron stars that merge. After the merger, a phase transition from ordinary hadronic matter (red-yellow) to quark matter (green) takes place.
The simulations were performed in order to find out whether such a quark-gluon plasma inside a merger remnant could be detected via graviational waves. See for the corresponding publication, which has been accepted to Physical Review Letters.
