Etta James - I’d Rather Go Blind Etta James was born Jamesetta Hawkins Jan. 25, 1938 in Los Angeles, California, to Dorothy Hawkins. She claimed that her mother told her that her father was a white pool player, Rudolf “Minnesota Fats“ Wanderone. She is an American blues, soul, RB, rock roll, gospel and jazz singer and songwriter. In the 1950s and 1960s, she had her biggest success as a blues and RB singer. She is best known for performing “At Last“.
