Just days ahead of G-20 Summit in New Delhi on 09th and 10th September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Indonesia to take part in 20th ASEAN-India summit. In Indonesia, PM Modi will also attend the 18th East Asia Summit, which brings together the 10 Asean members and eight dialogue partners that include Australia, India, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the US. India is not a member of ASEAN, but the mutually beneficial relationship has increasingly become important for ASEAN countries. This relationship between India and ASEAN countries dates back to the 1990s. When PM Narasimha Rao’s Government started the Look East Policy in 1992. This was an strategic shift from previous Nehruvian thinking.
