The Story of a Handshake is a short documentary produced by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Belarus for public viewing at the event commemorating the anniversary of the meeting of Soviet and American troops on the Elbe River in April 1945. The film is based on an interview with Alexander Silvashko, whose photo shaking hands with Bill Robertson of the U.S. Armys 69th Infantry Division in the town of Torgau has remained a prominent reminder of that remarkable encounter.
