Colombia and Brazil recently shut down 19 illegal gold mining sites in the Amazon rainforest. The criminals were mining about $1.5 million of the precious metal each month, and polluting rivers with mercury.
The forest often becomes a target for criminals. Those willing to profit from the natural resources do not care how much harm they will bring. Dr Eric Jennings, subject of our documentary, ‘Jungle M.D.’, fights for the Amazon rainforest.
