A city which once was super famous for its shopping. It had a huge number of shopping arcades so I was intrigued to see what shape they were in. I also made a visit to the White Rose centre, a giant out of town shopping mall. It was actually in a lot better shape than I thought. There was one strip of boarded up shops but that was it really. I talk about rents in this video. How the reluctance to lower rent on property is such a factor in the decline of town centres. Even though we know the buildings don’t hold that value any more, they still don’t budge. Driving into Leeds was a night mare and the parking was tricky too, all factors which make places like the White Rose more appealing. New culprits falling as well, with Matalan going the end of the month. Another empty shop ready to take its place on the high street.
