[ This video was made for the show “50 Years of the Photographic Artists’ Book, 1968-2018“ in the University of Arizona Gross Gallery during the 2019 CBAA National Conference in Tucson, AZ. Philip Zimmermann curated the show. ] This book, by Canadian conceptual artist Michael Snow, is considered one of the most iconic and influential works in the history of the artists’ book. One passes through the codex book as one would in the real world. It is simultaneously photographed from the front and the back as the protagonist, Snow himself, travels through time and space.
