LIVE: UN Security Council meeting on Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reports on the situations in Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia at the UNSC meets in New York City on Monday, November 15. The UNSC gathers as the Somalia sanctions, imposed due to the continued threat posed by Al-Shabaab militant group, are about to expire. Deliberating their renewal, Council members are expected to consider the current humanitarian situation, with some 5.9 million people in need of assistance. The Council will also discuss the situation in Sudan, three weeks after Sudan’s military seized power from a transitional government and declared a state of emergency. Since 25 October, several civilians have been killed and hundreds injured by security forces during protests. Discussion will also focus on neighbouring South Sudan, where localised ethnic and intercommunal violence continues, whilst the human rights, humanitarian, food security, and economic conditions in the country remain dire.
