R Lakshmipriya: Ragam Shankarabharanam “Kadi Modi“

Tiruppugazhs have been a part of the South Indian concert tradition for a very long time. Aruṇagirināthar belonged to a much earlier period and the tunes for his compositions are not available. All the Tiruppugazhs have been tuned later by various musicians and therefore, there are various versions for each. Tiruppugazhs are known for their candams or the metrical setting and the tāḷa should be reckoned in accordance with the candams prescribed for each Tiruppugazh. “Kādi mōdi” is a relatively well-known composition. It is the central piece of Lakshmipriya’s performance with an attempt to show that various aspects of manōdharma saṅgīta can be demonstrated and displayed in Tiruppugazhs as well.
