At the age of 46, Miss. Ulanova had performed in London and left her audience breathless, including other ballet dancers in awe of her beauty. Margot Fonteyn spoke of Miss. Ulanova. “I cannot even begin to talk about Ulanova’s dancing, it is so marvelous, I am left speechless. It is magic. Now we know what we lack.“ The today’s performance is from October 1956 at The Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Today’s Artists is Galina Ulanova performing in Giselle with The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet. Choreographers: Leonid Lavrovsky The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet: Bolshoi Ballet was founded in 1776. Its principle theatre is the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia. After months of diplomatic discussions with Russian officials, there were still last minute hic cups. The Ballet Companies 80 tonnes of scenery did not arrive at the theatre earlier as it was sitting on the docks for 14 days. The Russian stage hands did not arrive in London until five days prior to the first performance. Miss. Ulanova and the Bolshoi Ballet repertoire to be performed were Romeo and Juliet, Le Lac Des Cygnes (Swan Lake), The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Giselle. The excitement and immense interest from the British press, audience and dance professionals created a large interest to see the Bolshoi Ballet’s performance. People were queuing up three days prior to the booking office opened. The Bolshoi Ballet Company arrived two days prior to Opening Night.
