Night ~ Hot Summer Nights 1979 Extended Purrfection Version

Stevie Vann met Chris Thompson when she provided backing vocals for Manfred Mann’s Earth Band 1978 album “Watch“. Chris invited Stevie to join his band “Filthy McNasty“ and they jammed together creating the music that would comprise their first album. Once they tightened up, they changed the band name to “Night“ when they moved to Los Angeles. Super producer Richard Perry (Carly Simon, Pointer Sisters) helmed the album and “Hot Summer Nights“ peaked at #18 and “If You Remember Me“ bested it by placing at #17 on the Hot100. “If You Remember Me“ became a soundtrack single for the film “The Champ“ and oddly was attributed to Chris Thompson only as a solo artist despite its inclusion on the Night LP. That caused identity problems for the band and Night’s official follow up was “Cold Wind Across My Heart“ and it failed peaking at #113, bubbling under the Hot100. Even a gig opening for the Doobie Brothers did nothing to enhance their reputation. A second album sank without a trace the lone single “Love On The Airwaves“ peaked at #87 in early 1981. After appearing in the 1981 film “The Monster Club“ performing “The Stripper“ a cover of the David Rose original that was a #1 pop hit in 1962. They broke up shortly after that.
