Observation: Sometimes we are not counting the musical 8 counts, but we are counting the steps, or the steps of a part from the figure, on purpose. This is a technique we use to make our students stop making a 8 counts figure and do basic, or a 16 counts figure and do basic, … , but play with the elements of the figure and like this merge them. The target is to stop dancing on 8 counts but make the whole dance a big figure and focus not on the mathematical musicality but on the song musicality. On the other side it helps the leaders, that insist in making the figure whithout changes, to remember how many steps the figure has. I always say that is not important to do the figure from the beginning until the end but some leaders still need to make the figure complete, until they are ready to play with the figure and change it. :)
