It seems likely one of the gears was just in a bind. We just wiggled them around to make sure they would turn freely, and it started working again. It’s worth a little effort to take these things apart versus just throwing it in the trash and buying new. New we have three engines, which is great, so the 3 biggest kids can still fight over them!
